To participate in this week’s study, read from this book

The Idea of History: R.G. Collingwood

Colingwood gives a clearly defined philosophical overview of the views of the different periods of thought on history, and also his own philosophical view of history. The relevant part to us is the historical part of the book, Parts I - IV. Not the introduction or part V.

For this week let’s focus on Part I and II, pages 14 - 85.

you can get the book on amazon kindle for 99 cents or wherever you get the books, it is legally available for free here. There is also an audiobook available .

We should try to get a general understanding of these 4 periods or frameworks. Each of which has its own understanding of what understanding or Science is, and therefore of how historical knowledge fits into that.

I am giving hints in parentheses to the main concepts involved in understanding the different views.
